MAY 22: LITTLE PIONEER TREE IN ALPS – HIGH TIME TO LISTEN TO ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT!

LITTLE LARCH TREE IN SWISS ALPS - HAVE REVERENCE FOR US, THE TREES!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT BY A GREAT MAN!

«HAVE REVERENCE FOR THE TREE!
IT IS ONE GREAT MIRACLE, AND IT WAS SACRED TO YOUR ANCESTORS.
ENMITY TOWARDS THE TREE IS A SIGN OF THE INFERIORITY OF A PEOPLE
AND OF THE LOW MIND OF THE INDIVIDUAL!

ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT (14 September 1769 – 6 May 1859)
German polymath, geographer, naturalist, explorer, and proponent of Romantic philosophy and science.

SCIENTIFIC PIONEER!

Humboldt's quantitative work on botanical geography laid the foundation for the field of biogeography.
Humboldt's advocacy of long-term systematic geophysical measurement laid the foundation for modern geomagnetic and meteorological monitoring.

SCIENTIFIC EXPLORER OF THE AMERICAS!

Between 1799 and 1804, Humboldt travelled extensively in the Americas, exploring and describing them for the first time from a modern Western scientific point of view.
His description of the journey was written up and published in several volumes over 21 years.

FIRST TO RECOGNIZE MAN MADE CLIMATE CHANGE!

He was the first person to describe the phenomenon and cause of human-induced climate change and its consequences on nature and human life!
This already in 1800 and again in 1831, based on observations generated during his travels.

APR 11: ICEFALL HEAVEN’S GATE – MADELEINE AND ERIC PRESENT A MASTERPIECE OF NATURE!

MADELEINE BIANCHI and ERIC MAURER in Winter Wonderland - We found there Icefall HEAVEN'S GATE!

THE MASTERPIECE!

These wonderful ice sculptures are a creation of the unsurpassed master: NATURE!
The result of a synergy of water, gravity, wind, ice-cold air and atmospheric light refraction.

IN WINTER WONDERLAND!

Exactly the conditions that prevail during winter in this deep valley in the Swiss Alps.
This is because the rock walls in which it is nestled are so high that no sunlight reaches the valley floor from November to March!

THE ICEFALL!

This masterpiece of Nature is the lower end of a huge icefall, that MADELEINE and ERIC call HEAVEN’S GATE!

SEE IT FOR FREE!

And best of all! Its sightseeing is free! For Nature demands no admission fee!
Just a little perseverance, some puff as well as some sweat!

WISE WORDS!

«THE MEDIATOR OF THE INEXPRESSIBLE IS THE ART WORK!»
JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE (1749 - 1832) - German poet, playwright, novelist, scientist, statesman, theater director, critic and amateur artist.

MAR 13: MADELEINE BIANCHI – I SEE WINTER WONDERLAND IN A MAGICAL BLUE TWILIGHT!

MADELEINE BIANCHI - Have you ever experienced such a magical blue twilight in the mountains?

SUNSET IN WINTER WONDERLAND!

The last rays of the sun get refracted at the sharp mountain crests of the Swiss Alps.

IN MAGICAL TWILIGHT!

The heights are now bathed in the magical blue twilight of the nightfall!
Whilst the night has already spread its black cloak over the deep valley.

THE DEEP VALLEY!

This valley is so narrow that from November to March no ray of sunlight falls into it!
Eric discovered it on his forays through the Swiss Alps in summer, as in winter!

ITS ICE FALLS!

Eric knew exactly that in winter we would find gigantic icefalls here, flowing over the high rock faces down to the valley floor!
And particularly, the magnificent Heaven’s Gate with its beautiful ice sculptures, which you know from my photos!

OUR WAY BACK!

Now it's high time to descend into the valley, because the coming night will be bitterly cold!
Because the way back through the deep snow in the forests of the valley will be energy-sapping and take a long time!
But that's the price we gladly pay for the wonderful day we had at Winter Wonderland!
